Apparently the theory was started by the Danish church historian Christen Olivarius (1710-45) in his work De vita et scriptis Pauli Eliæ Carmelitæ (1741) p. 48, 159 which is a biography of Poul Helgesen. Helgesen was the person Christian II wanted to translate the book.
