The Shedd Aquarium opened to the public in May of 1930 thanks to an initial donation of $2 million by John G. Shedd. Shedd, the president of Marshall Field & Company, wanted to give back to the city of Chicago so he founded the Shedd Aquarium Society with his donation.
Street parking Please note, until further notice, there will only be garage parking on the Museum Campus, no street parking on Solidarity Drive. If you choose to visit Shedd Aquarium, we strongly recommend arriving via public transportation. Lot parking The Museum Campus also has several lots where you can park.
