The Art Deco building of the observatory was built in 1935 and is free to enter! There is a lot to see inside so expect to spend 1-3 hours here.

The trail is well-marked and well-maintained. Keep an eye out for lovely wildflowers blooming along the trail in the spring. This is a great sunrise or sunset hike.

  7. Mount Hollywood Trail. From Griffith Observatory to Mount Hollywood is 3 miles round trip with 500-foot elevation gain. On clear days the entire basin is spread out before you from the San Gabriel Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. Sometimes mounts San Gorgonio, Baldy and San Jacinto can be seen. The view at night can be spectacular, too.
