Ruth McDevitt was a recurring guest star on Bewitched who played multiple roles, both witch and mortal. Ruth McDevitt was born Ruth Thane Shoecraft. She appeared in nearly every branch of the entertainment media starting on stage and then radio, graduating to the movies and then television.
Biography. Ruth McDevitt started off on the popular sitcom "Mister Peepers" (featuring the situational and physical comedy of a high school science teacher). She was also a scene-stealer as the gun-slinging Grandma Effie Hanks on the short-lived series "Pistols 'n' Petticoats."
McDevitt's entree into weekly television was on the classic early-1950s Wally Cox sitcom Mr. Peepers, in which she played Wally's mom. Her next series stint was as rifle-wielding Grandma Hanks in the short-lived 1967 western comedy Pistols and Petticoats.
