Power Outages. A power outage (also called a power cut, a power blackout, power failure or a blackout) is a short or long-term loss of electric power to an area. There are many causes of power failures and there are many ways to keep safe during an incident. If Your Power Goes Out at Home.
If there is a power outage: Call your power provider immediately to report the outage. Disconnect or turn off all appliances that would otherwise go on automatically when service is restored. If several appliances start up at once, they may overload the electric circuits.
