Sir Fredrick Banting was a Canadian physician who along with Charles Best and John Rickard Macleod first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of Insulin in 1921. Injections of insulin proved to be the first effective treatment for diabetes, a disease in which glucose accumulates in abnormally high quantities in the blood.
