Apr 1, 2021 · Avalanche Lake is a great hike in the summer and early fall. Hiking to Avalanche Lake, about five miles round-trip, climbs through beautiful forests to a spectacular mountain lake. This hike provides an excellent introduction to what Glacier is all about.
The alpine lake is surrounded by towering peaks and is fed by, among other sources, the Sperry Glacier, one of Glacier National Park’s remaining 26 glacier formations. In addition to those few surviving glaciers, the US Park Services says there are 762 lakes and 563 streams within the park’s boundaries.
