U.K. rock & roll singer Joe Brown was a popular live and television performer in the late '50s, his skiffle outfit, the Spacemen, were the backing group on Jack Good’s top-rated television series Boy Meets Girl. Re-christened Joe Brown & the Bruvvers, they charted with a unique treatment of "The Darktown Strutters Ball" in 1960, followed by "A Picture of You," and ‘That’s What Love Will Do." But as the beat boom took off, Brown shrewdly moved into theater, appearing in the hit musical Charlie Girl, and hosting his own television series, Set ‘Em Up Joe.
