     The instructions provided in the answer by Arjun KP don't work for more recent versions of Firefox (tested on v. 57.0.1). Instead, here's what I did:

     • Enter about:config in the address bar, accepting the risk if prompted.
     • Enter security.OCSP.enabled in the search bar.
     • Change the value of that setting from 1 to 0.
     • Reload the page that failed.

     After doing this, my site started working.

     However, as Arjun mentioned, this will reduce the security of Firefox, since it disables the Online Certificate Status Protocol. Ideally, you should reset the setting to 1 after you finish with that site, and not load other pages while it is set to 0.

     I'm assuming you have a web application, which is trying to access that restful service.

     First, you should not set your stores via javax.net.ssl.* properties, but use SSL configurations provided in WebSphere. So comment all these setProperty() calls. Second, you have to add your service server certificate to the trust store.

     Login to web admin console:

     • Go to Security > SSL certificate and key management > Key stores and certificates > NodeDefaultTrustStore > Signer certificates
     • Click Retrieve from port button, and specify hostname, 443 port, and Alias.
     • Click Retrieve singer information button.
     • Verify, if correct certificate is imported (parent).
     • Save, and restart.

     In some versions, the child certificate was imported (not the root), in that case, you will have to manually download the root certificate and intermediate (e.g. via browser, and import that one to the NodeDefaultTrustStore, but this time using Add button, not Retrieve..

     The certificate is plain invalid. You should either connect to imap.mailboxhost.com:993/imap/ssl or contact the administrator of the mail server and ask for a valid certificate.

     Note that while you can use the connection string imap.froiden.com:993/imap/ssl/novalidate-cert to skip certificate validation, you should not do so as that flag will allow any Man In The Middle attacker to read and write your email.

     As you have mentioned that you encountered a similar error when you were working with NPM, it's most likely due to the proxy setup by your administration.

     You can configure the proxy for any third party module to connect to the internet. By default, urlopen of urllib3 uses the environment variable http_proxy to determine which HTTP proxy to use.

     run this command in CMD before running your python application

     export http_proxy='http://myproxy.proxy.com:1234'-

     This is a browser-level error: you probably didn't do anything wrong to cause this error. The browser (or the the SQLite library it uses) either did something wrong, or the file was left in an invalid state due to a hardware problem.

     You can't really prevent this issue, except by joining the Firefox development team and making the browser's storage system more fault-resistant. There doesn't seem to be any way to restore data from this error, so what you'll have to do is detect this error and tell users how to blow away their browser storage according to this MDN post:

     Note that the catch block should verify that the error is an NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED error. I think my check on e.name is correct, but you should verify it for yourself.

     After an OS crash files within the Firefox profile folder might be corrupt and lead to non-functional websites (in my case ironically the Firefox marketplace). Here, webappsstore.sqlite was affected.

     As user @Oli stated over at Ask Ubuntu

     Firefox stores its HTML5 data in a file called webappsstore.sqlite. That's sitting in your profile directory which lurks somewhere in ~/.mozilla/firefox/....default/ (depending on what your profile is called).

     Move that out the way and restart Firefox and everything will come back to life.

     If deleted/moved out of your profile folder, Firefox builds a new, sanitized webappsstore.sqlite file. Worked for me. Information on where to find your profile folder can be accessed here.

     Clearing everything via the Firefox preferences may not fully clear the local storage where the corrupted SQLite file resides.

     At this point, you have two options:

     • Pop open your console and clear the storage via a Javascript command (hat tip: https://davidjb.com/blog/2017/11/resolving-an-ns_error_file_corrupted-error-in-mozilla-firefox/):

     localStorage.clear()sessionStorage.clear()-

     • Use the terminal to delete the corrupted SQLite file and force Firefox to rebuild it.

     Steps for macOS users:
