Ronald J. McGovney (born November 2, 1963) is an American semi-retired musician, best known as the original bass guitarist in the thrash metal band Metallica from October 1981 to December 1982.

Ron McGovney (born November 2, 1962) was the original bassist for Metallica. James and Ron had previously played together in the band Leather Charm. He was a friend of James and Lars. Ron was always the target for Dave Mustaine. Ron quit Metallica because of a fight with Dave.
