Steny Hamilton Hoyer (/ ˈ s t ɛ n i ˈ h ɔɪ ər / STEN-ee HOY-ər; born June 14, 1939) is an American politician and retired attorney who has served as the U.S. representative for Maryland's 5th congressional district since 1981.
Congressman Hoyer is the most senior member of the House Democratic Caucus, serving the House of Representatives for more than forty-two years. In that time, he has held various leadership positions, including Majority Leader – the second highest ranking member of Democratic House leadership.
