    Rennes ( French pronunciation: [ʁɛn] ⓘ; Breton: Roazhon [ˈrwɑːõn]; Gallo: Resnn; Latin: Condate Redonum) is a city in the east of Brittany in northwestern France at the confluence of the rivers Ille and Vilaine. Rennes is the prefecture of the region of Brittany, as well as the Ille-et-Vilaine department.

    • Old Rennes. Rennes was almost completely razed by a great fire in 1720, which explains why there are so many dignified late-18th-century houses in the city.
