Overview. After learning that a boy their age has been accidentally killed near their rural homes, four Oregon boys decide to go see the body. On the way, Gordie, Vern, Chris and Teddy encounter a mean junk man and a marsh full of leeches, as they also learn more about one another and their very different home lives.
In a treehouse at the edge of Castle Rock, a small Oregon town, budding 12-year-old writer Gordie is about to begin an extraordinary trek into the heart of the northwestern forest. His best friend Vern has overheard his older brother and a friend talking about their discovery of a dead body in the woods.
