Republic Pictures Corporation (currently held under Melange Pictures, LLC) was an American film studio corporation that originally operated from 1935 to 1967, based in Los Angeles, California. It had production and distribution facilities in Studio City, as well as a movie ranch in Encino .
More than 1,100 movies were made by Republic Pictures during the twenty-four years the studio was in existence. Republic was the brainchild of Herbert J. Yates, who founded the studio in 1935 when he convinced several smaller studios such as Chesterfield, Monogram and Mascot to consolidate under one banner.
THE REPUBLIC PICTURES STORY takes a look at the studio and how it took several years but they finally managed to work their way through the low budgets and eventually get to Oscar-worthy films. Ed Herlihy narrates this documentary, which features interviews with various actors and directors who worked at the studio.
