The series acts as a retelling of the Arthurian legends and takes place in Post-Roman Dark Age Britain, where the warlord Arthur Pendragon has been banished while Saxons invade and a child-king sits unprotected on the throne.
The Winter King: A Novel of Arthur is the first novel of the Warlord Chronicles trilogy by Bernard Cornwell, originally published in the UK in 1995 by Penguin Group. The book is based on characters and plot elements from Arthurian myth, but considerably changed and re-worked.
The Winter King: With Iain De Caestecker, Stuart Campbell, Valene Kane, Steven Elder. A former warrior, now turned monk, tells the story of how Arthur became the lord of war despite the illegitimacy of his throne.
