DANIEL, MENAHEM SALIH (1846–1940), leader of the Baghdad community. Daniel's family, which was of Georgian origin, had left him large estates, mostly in the vicinity of the town of Hilla, Iraq. In 1876 he was elected to the Ottoman parliament, and in 1924 to the Iraqi parliament.
Menaḥem Ṣāliḥ Danielwas born in Baghdad in 1846 and died there in 1940. He was a merchant, a landlord, and a farmer, as well as a politician and an important representative of the Iraqi Jewish community in the period of transition from the Ottoman Empire to the modern state of Iraq.
Menahem Saleh Daniel (1846-1940) was an Iraqi Jewish businessman, landowner, philanthropist and politician who served as a member of the Senate of Iraq and Deputy for Baghdad to the Ottoman Chamber of Deputies.
