The Saint Seiya saga is getting the live-action, big-screen treatment with the upcoming feature film Knights of the Zodiac, opening only in theaters on May 12, 2023. IGN can exclusively debut the trailer for Knights of the Zodiac, which can be viewed via the player above or the embed below.
Based on the international anime sensation and original stories and characters from the manga “Saint Seiya” by Masami Kurumad, Knights of the Zodiac stars Mackenyu, Famke Janssen, Madison Iseman, Diego Tinoco, Mark Dacascos, Nick Stahl, and Sean Bean.
According to the official plot synopsis, “Seiya (Mackenyu), a headstrong street teen, spends his time fighting for cash while he searches for his abducted sister. When one of his fights unwittingly taps into mystical powers he never knew he had, Seiya finds himself thrust into a world of warring saints, ancient magical training, and a reincarnated goddess who needs his protection. If he’s to survive, he will need to embrace his destiny and sacrifice everything to take his rightful place among the Knights of the Zodiac.”
Madison Iseman plays Sienna, “a girl who struggles with the responsibility of harnessing the power of the goddess Athena”; Sean Bean plays Alman Kido, “the recruiter and mentor who puts Seiya to the ultimate test to become a Knight of the Zodiac”; and Famke Janssen portrays Guraad, “the leader of a secret organization that aims to seize the power of the goddess, Athena.”
From Stage 6 Films and TOEI Animation, Knights of the Zodiac is produced by Yoshi Ikezawa, Joseph Chou, and Tim Kwok and executive produced by Kozo Morishita, Katsuhiro Takagi, Jeffrey Chan, and Rick Nathanson. The film is rated PG-13.
