Brad Bird is married to writer and film editor Elizabeth Canney since 1988 and has three sons with her: Michael, Nicholas, and Jack Bird. His oldest son Michael has provided voice in 'The Iron Giant', 'The Incredibles' and its sequel, while Nicholas has also voice acted in 'Finding Nemo' and the two 'The Incredibles' films.
In his personal life, he wed Elizabeth Canney, an editor on Batteries Not Included. In 1989, Bird's sister Susan, with whom he was very close, was killed by her estranged husband in a murder-suicide. The event was traumatic for Bird; he felt emotionally "kind of gone in that period. I don't really have a lot of memories from it."
