Volapük (English: / ˈ v ɒ l ə p ʊ k /; Volapük, 'Language of the World', or lit. 'World Speak') is a constructed language created between 1879 and 1880 by Johann Martin Schleyer, a Catholic priest in Baden, Germany, who believed that God had told him in a dream to create an international language.

It met with immediate success, with Volapük supporters' clubs being formed throughout Europe and the United States, and even as far away as Brazil and China.
S is pronounced [z] after voiced consonants, e.g. bs, ds, gs, and [s] elsewhere. Z is pronounced [dz] after voiced consonants, and [ts] elsewhere. ä, ö and ü can also be written ae, oe and ue, or ꞛ, ꞝ, and ꞟ. R and W were not included in the original version of Volapük.
