Richard Lamar Draughon was born on July 14, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. Draughon began his career in daytime in 1994 writing for Loving. Draughon would go on to write for Another World, Sunset Beach and The Young and Restless. Draughon joined the writing staff of DAYS in 2002. Draughon created the internet soap opera Coastal Dreams.
