The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey ( UMDNJ) was a state-run health sciences institution with six locations in New Jersey . It was founded as the Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry in 1954, and by the 1980s was both a major school of health sciences, and a major research university.

Founded in 1970 as the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, the institution was granted university status in 1981. It has four main campuses: Newark, Stratford, Camden and Piscataway/New Brunswick. Its eight schools offer graduate degrees and certificates and 25 undergraduate programmes in 52 fields of study.
The school is renamed as the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry (NJCMD). As part of the Medical and Dental Act of 1970, NJCMD and Rutgers Medical School are combined under one Board of Trustees as the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (CMDNJ).
We educate the next generation of practitioners, conduct pioneering research and treat patients in New Jersey and around the world. Our school was founded in 1956 as part of the Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry, which was later renamed the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).
