Robert North was a student at the Central School of Arts before going on to study at the Royal Ballet School and the London School of Contemporary Dance (1965-1967). He was a founding member of London Contemporary Dance Theatre in 1967. North became Associate Choreographer of Ballet Rambert in 1975 before being appointed Artistic Director in 1981.
