Betty MacDonald (born Anne Elizabeth Campbell Bard; March 26, 1907 [1] – February 7, 1958) was an American author who specialized in humorous autobiographical tales, and is best known for her book The Egg and I. She also wrote the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series of children's books.
On February 7, 1958, Betty MacDonald died of cancer in Seattle at age 50. The house where MacDonald wrote her books is located about a quarter of a mile south of Dolphin Point on the east side of Vashon Island. Today, visitors stop beside the road above to look down at the huge barn that the MacDonalds built.
