St. Joseph Academy (SJA) was a Catholic all-girls high school in Des Moines, Iowa. It merged with Dowling Catholic High School in 1972.
By the fall of 1921, the Diocese of Des Moines was creeping up on its 10th anniversary. Bishop Austin Dowling had opened the boys high school that would one day take his name and he had designated St. Joseph Academy the central Catholic high school for girls in Des Moines.

In 1884, St. Joseph Academy was founded by the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Housed in a renovated building called “Villa Maria,” few students were able to attend this "country school" located three miles west of downtown Des Moines due to limited public transportation.
