Robert Bolam. Sir Robert Alfred Bolam (1871 – 28 April 1939) was a British medical doctor, academic and British Army officer. He served as Chair of Council of the British Medical Association from 1920 to 1927. He was President of the British Association of Dermatologists 1933-34. He was Vice-Chancellor of Durham University from 1936 to 1937.
Robert Bolam, the son of John Bolam, a Newcastle chemist, spent the greater part of his life in his native city. He was educated at Rutherford College and received his professional training in the Durham University Medical School at Newcastle, graduating with the degrees of M.B, B.S, in 1893.
Bolam was born on 16 June 1935 in Sunderland, County Durham. His father, Robert Alfred Bolam, was from Northumberland, and his mother, Marion Alice Drury, [3] from County Durham.
