George’s father, Jim Miller, was born Dimitri Castrisios Miliotis in the village of Mitata on Kythera, an island in Greece. In the early years of the 20th century Jim got on a boat and left, his mother waving a large white scarf at him as he departed. Jim remembered watching the scarf until it disappeared from sight.
