The Nightcomers was a co-production between British director Michael Winner's Scimitar Productions and Americans Jay Kanter, Alan Ladd, Jr. and Elliott Kastner, the agent of the film's star, Marlon Brando. After the film was a hit at the 1971 Venice Film Festival, it was picked up for distribution by Avco Embassy Pictures Corp.
