Gayatri Devi (born Princess Gayatri Devi of Cooch Behar; 23 May 1919 − 29 July 2009) was the third Maharani consort of Jaipur from 1940 to 1949 through her marriage to Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II.
Gayatri Devi was the last—and most beautiful—of a dying breed. Born a princess and becoming a Maharani, she ruled only briefly over a changing India. Yet her reign and its aftermath had enough intrigue and tragedy to last at least three lifetimes.
Gayatri Devi moved so far beyond the traditional restrictions that she won a seat in the Indian Parliament in 1962. She won the constituency in the Lok Sabha in the world's largest majority of votes, winning 192,909 votes out of 246,516 cast, as recorded by the Guinness Book of Records.
