Ian Reichbach is an American screenwriter. He is a Story Editor for the first season of The Newsroom. The Newsroom creator Aaron Sorkin has worked with Reichbach on his earlier series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and the films Charlie Wilson's War and The Social Network.

    Career

He was a Systems Engineer for Sony before becoming a Screenwriter. He was a friend of Aaron Sorkin's personal assistant Lauren Lohman. She arranged for him to interview for the writer's assistant role on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and he left his Information Technology (IT) career to take the job. He shared the writer's assistant role with Jack Gutowitz. They joined the crew after the series was picked up for the first season in 2006 and debuted with the episode "The Cold Open". Lohman also joined the Studio 60 crew as an Associate Producer. Reichbach and Gutowitz co-wrote the story for the episode "K & R: Part 2". Sorkin wrote the teleplay for the episode. Studio 60 was not renewed after completing its first season in 2007. Sorkin also hired him as a writing assistant for his work on the film Charlie Wilson's War (2007). He assisted Sorkin in writing the screenplay for the unproduced film The Trial of the Chicago Seven. He was a researcher for Sorkin's script writing for the film The Social Network. The film centred on the acrimonious separation of the team that developed the website Facebook. Sorkin relied heavily on his IT background for the technical aspects of the screenplay. He was thanked in Sorkin's acceptance speech for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He became a Story Editor for The Newsroom in 2012 having worked on the project uncredited as a researcher during the development stage. He did not work officially on the series pilot and joined the crew when the first season was ordered. He debuted with the second episode "News Night 2.0". He shares the Story Editor role with David Handelman, who was a Staff Writer on Studio 60. Lohman also rejoins Reichbach and Sorkin on The Newsroom team, now as a Co-producer.

Ian Reichbach: I started UCLA in92, leaving my hometown of Miami with big ideas of becoming a successful actor, and majored in the most complimentary subject to my pursuits: Electrical Engineering.
