Wendy Emerton, an only child, was born on 20 July 1943 in Middlesbrough. Her parents, Henry and Beatrice Reay (née Cutter) Emerton, were publicans and ran the Corporation Hotel in the town. Emerton and Cutter married in Paddington, London in 1939. While Wendy was a baby, her family moved to Bournemouth.
Wendy Richard was a British actress who starred in Are You Being Served? as Miss Brahms and EastEnders as Pauline Fowler. She also had a number one hit with Come Outside in 1962 and received an MBE in 2008.
