Eddie Asner[1] (/ ˈæznər /; November 15, 1929 – August 29, 2021) was an American actor. He is most notable for portraying Lou Grant on the CBS sitcoms The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Lou Grant, making him one of the few television actors to portray the same character in both a comedy and a drama.
The immensely prolific Asner (417 IMDB screen credits!) would receive seven Emmys in total (from 21 nominations), all Primetime, and become the only actor to win in both the comedy and drama category for the same role.
