Aug 4, 1999 · Biography. Victor John Mature was an American stage, film and television actor. In July 1942 Mature attempted to enlist in the U.S. Navy but was rejected for color blindness. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard after taking a different eye test the same day. He was assigned to the USCGC Storis (WMEC-38), which was doing Greenland patrol work.
Served in the Coast Guard during WWII. Victor appeared in 55 movies over a career that spanned 40 years from 1939 to 1979. 89% of his movie releases occurred in the 40s and 50s. Major film genres include: drama (26), comedy (15) and romance (14). He also appeared in a number of classic film noir movies.
