Stewart was born in Montclair, New Jersey, the daughter of Hedwig (Haenssler) and Ulrich E. Steinberg. [2] . She was one of five children born to Jewish immigrants. [3] .
Elaine Stewart was a redheaded beauty who starred in MGM films such as The Bad and the Beautiful and Brigadoon in the 1950s. She later retired from acting and became a co-host of Las Vegas Gambit and High Rollers in the 1970s.
