Dame Miranda Catherine Millais Harcourt DNZM (born 1962) is a New Zealand actress and acting coach. [1] Harcourt's acting career began playing boy characters on Radio New Zealand in the early 1970s. She is best known for her role as Gemma in the 1980s TV drama series Gloss.
In 2019 and 2021 she was a Governor for the Filmmaker Lab and the Rising Stars at the Toronto Film Festival (TIFF). Miranda has coached Oscar, Golden Globe, Emmy, International Emmy and BAFTA-award nominated and winning performances. In 2017 Miranda co-directed NZ YA classic The Changeover with Stuart McKenzie.
At the forefront of verbatim theatre internationally, their plays include VERBATIM, PORTRAITS, FLOWERS FROM MY MOTHER’S GARDEN and BIOGRAPHY OF MY SKIN. Their acclaimed dark drama FOR GOOD, adapted from their verbatim work in prisons all over NZ, won Best Actress at the Festival Des Antipodes.
Mini Bio. For seven years Miranda was the Head of the Acting Department at Toi Whakaari - New Zealand Drama School. Miranda teaches at the National Film and Television School in London (NFTS), AFTRS and The Hub in Sydney, at Toi Whakaari, The Actors' Program and Victoria University in NZ and by Zoom with individual clients.
