Best known as one of the New Hollywood scene's leading actors and as an icon of horror and B-movies in the '90s and 2000s, Karen Black was also a gifted singer/songwriter. She sang in several of her films, including Robert Altman's 1975 classic Nashville, where she performed songs she wrote herself, and 1997's Dogtown. During the '70s, Black also appeared on variety shows hosted by Bobby Vinton and Dolly Parton; decades later, she performed with L7 and collaborated with Cass McCombs. At the peak of her mainstream popularity in the early to mid-'70s, she recorded with producers, but Black was so restlessly creative -- she also painted and wrote poetry and plays -- that she didn't have time to finish an album. Nearly a decade after her death, 2021's collection Dreaming of You (1971-1976) revealed her range and sensitivity as a folk-influenced singer and songwriter. Wikipedia
