Actor Slim Pickens was not just a cowboy in 'Blazing Saddles.' He was one in the rodeo and in other films and TV shows outside of the '74 classic.
A few of his most impressive acting credits include Dr. Strangelove, Stagecoach with Ann Margaret and Bing Crosby, One-Eyed Jacks with Marlon Brando and The Getaway with Steve McQueen. Pickens is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Taggart in the 1974 hit comedy Blazing Saddles.
Dec 9, 1983 · Slim Pickens, famous cowboy actor, is dead following a long bout with pneumonia, a friend of the family has confirmed. Pickens, 64, died in a Modesto hospital, said Clare Huffaker. He said Pickens' daughter called him with the news that her father died on Thursday.
