Mitzi Gaynor. Actress: South Pacific. It is perhaps ironic that the film for which this performer is best remembered was also her musical swansong and one of her very last motion picture appearances.
Now a headliner in her own right, she portrayed 19th century entertainer Lotta Crabtree in the biopic Golden Girl (1951), a South Sea Islander in Down Among the Sheltering Palms (1952) and the 'Queen of Vaudeville', Eva Tanguay, in The I Don't Care Girl (1953). All were minor box-office hits.

Mitzi was the first star client for whom Mr. Mackie designed an entire show. He would continue to design the lavish, razzle-dazzle costumes that remained a staple throughout her performing career. In 1972 Mitzi moved to the Tropicana where she opened their new Superstar Theatre.
