Irm Hermann was born in 1942 in Munich. At a theater competition for young people, she met legendary director Rainer Werner Fassbinder, who convinced her to quit her job as a secretary and work with him. In 1966, Hermann had her debut in Fassbinder's first short film, Der Stadtstreicher.
