In track and field, Greenwood was the Big Ten high jump champion in 1982, clearing 7 feet at the conference outdoor meet. He thought seriously about pursuing the decathlon until the Michigan Panthers made him a first-round pick in the USFL draft and signed him to a hefty contract.
