Richard Erwin Rood [1] (December 7, 1958 – April 20, 1999), better known by his ring name " Ravishing " Rick Rude, was an American professional wrestler who performed for many promotions, including World Championship Wrestling (WCW), World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW).
After a three-year stint with WCW ended in 1994 and retiring due to injuries, Rick Rude stayed out of the spotlight until joining ECW in 1997. Rick Rude only wrestled one match after retiring from in-ring action, a six-man tag match at the main event of the ECW Heat Wave 1997 PPV.
Approximately a month after departing WCW, Rick Rude was found unconscious by his wife and was pronounced dead on April 20, 1999, at the age of 40 due to heart failure. An autopsy later revealed that he’d died due to an overdose of mixed medications .
