Renaud Lavillenie (French pronunciation: [ʁə.no la.vi.lə.ni] or [ʁə.no la.vil.ni]; born 18 September 1986) is a French pole vaulter. Lavillenie won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London and the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

He eventually broke the world record set by the great Sergey Bubka of Ukraine, the Seoul 1988 Olympic champion, clearing 6.16m in Bubka’s homeland and in front of his predecessor who was watching on.
In February 2014, Renaud Lavillenie became the pole vault world record holder (6.16m), surpassing the great Sergey Bubka in Donetsk, in the presence of the master himself.
