NFIB was founded by C. Wilson Harder in 1943 and maintained its headquarters in San Mateo, California, until 1992 when it was relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. Harder’s vision was to give small and independent business a voice in government decision-making through advocacy.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 11, 2024) – The NFIB Small Business Optimism Index reached the highest reading of the year in May at 90.5, a 0.8-point increase but still the 29 th month below the historical average of 98. The Uncertainty Index rose nine points to 85, the highest reading since November 2020.
