Mar 6, 2024 · Aegean art encompasses the creative expressions of the Cycladic, Minoan, and Mycenaean civilizations, flourishing in and around the Aegean Sea during the Bronze Age. This period extends from approximately 2800 to 1100 BC and is considered a precursor to Classical Greek Art.
Dating to this period are some of the most remarkable figural frescos of the Aegean Bronze Age, including those from Santorini, an island, very much under Minoan influence.
The prehistoric Aegean was the first truly international age, and much of the art shows influence across cultures: Minoan wall painting owes much to Egyptian art; late Bronze Age Cypriot pottery imitates Mycenaean pieces.
