Norwegian Americans (Bokmål: Norskamerikanere, Nynorsk: Norskamerikanarar) are Americans with ancestral roots in Norway. Norwegian immigrants went to the United States primarily in the latter half of the 19th century and the first few decades of the 20th century.

Norwegian history in America covers a period of 170 years, beginning with the pioneer immigrants in 1825. Viking ancestors had, however, established colonies in Greenland—outposts of European civilization—as early as 985 A.D.
The Norwegian-American Historical Association is home to one of North America’s oldest and largest ethnic manuscript collections. Founded in 1925 on the campus of St. Olaf College, NAHA also maintains robust scholarly publishing program and holds regular events for its members and the public.
