Feng Xiaogang. Biography. Feng Xiaogang (born 1958) is a Chinese film director. He is famous in China as being perhaps the most successful "commercialized" filmmaker whose comedy films do consistently well in the box office, although Feng has attempted to break out from that mold by making drama or period drama films recently.
Feng Xiaogang emerged as one of Asia’s most successful commercial directors in the late 1990s for his searing black comedies about the lives of common people in a rapidly changing China. In the past 15 years, his films have become more ambitious and have pushed the boundaries of Chinese cinema.
