Hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent restoring the 1912 home, garden, and the administrative office next door. In the office's museum area, the tour guide explains the history of the house and shows you the many photgraphs, magazine covers, and newspaper articles about Dr. King that are on display.

Dexter Parsonage Museum. The restored parsonage of Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church appears as it did when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his family resided here during Dr. King’s pastorate from 1954-1960.
Visitors to the Dexter Parsonage Museum will experience the actual residence where Dr. King and his young family lived between 1954 and 1960; an Interpretive Center, and the King-Johns Garden for Reflection. Parking is available for cars and tour buses.

The house was built in 1912 in Centennial Hill, a middle- and upper-class African-American neighborhood. It was purchased in 1919 by the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church for use as their parsonage. It was the home of Martin Luther King Jr. and his family while he was pastor, from 1954 until 1960.
