The Yakima Valley Museum has achieved prestigious peer recognition. It is one of only three museums in Eastern Washington to be fully accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and at 65,000 ft2, it is one of the largest cultural history museums in the State.
Land of Joy and Sorrow: Japanese Pioneers in the Yakima Valley. At the turn of the twentieth century, many Japanese families immigrated to the United States. Some were farmers, who chose the Wapato-Toppenish area of the lower Yakima Valley as the place to make a new life for themselves because of the potential for agriculture there.
