Ellie Hamilton, an up and coming Los Angeles interior designer, is the type of person who takes care of other's needs over her own. That's why she will settle for somewhat "happily ever after" instead of "until death do us part" in relenting to her boyfriend Alec's want not ever to marry in he not having had good role models of marriage, and despite Ellie's true want to walk down the aisle. That's why she helped Jason Groff plan the perfect way to propose to her sister, Mandy Hamilton. And that's why she is basically taking the lead in organizing Mandy and Jason's destination wedding at an Acapulco resort, the event where she, being the maid of honor, will tolerate spending much time with her ex-boyfriend, lawyer Greg Mount who is Jason's best man. Before breaking up when Greg made the unilateral decision to accept a job offer in Atlanta, Ellie and Greg were on the brink of getting engaged themselves. Ellie and Greg's reunion is difficult enough as it is without the added pressure placed on them: while the rest of the wedding guests have arrived at the resort, Mandy and Jason, only known to Ellie and Greg, are back at home having relationship problems which threatens the marriage altogether. Ellie, with Greg, believe they have to keep Mandy and Jason's absence a secret from everyone else, including Ellie and Mandy's father and grandmother, Thomas and Goldie, in the hope that Mandy and Jason will work things out before the scheduled wedding date, and in not wanting anyone to worry especially in having taken the time and financial effort to get to Acapulco. On top of that, Ellie and Greg have to deal with Javier, who has taken over the role as the resort's wedding liaison, he who is not privy to any of the arrangements already made.
