Lee Marvin plays a mob enforcer who goes to Kansas City to collect a debt from a prostitute dealer (Gene Hackman). The movie is a comic strip-like fantasy with caricature characters, outdoor chases and a giant reaper.
A Chicago mob enforcer investigates the murders of his associates by a Kansas City cattle rancher who is involved in illegal activities. The rancher is a ruthless and sadistic man who grinds his enemies into sausage and sells women as sex slaves.

The concentration on visuals, disinterest in social realism and genre cross-pollination are much more like the concerns of a graphic novel than was the norm in 1970s crime dramas. In other words, a great film that was ahead of its time.
