HOLY WEAPON is a strange little comedy from Wong Jing, very lowbrow and very scattershot and not what you're expecting if you're looking for a traditional wuxia fable.

Holy Weapon starts out strong (with stylized wuxia action that has tons of severed limbs flying through the air), before it goes a different route all together and becomes a fluffy adventurer with exaggerated cartoon-like antics and puerile humour.

Approximately twenty minutes of Holy Weapon is some of the most energetic batshit ‘90s wuxia action I’ve seen. The opening battle alone is a minor masterpiece; anime-level feats of super-swordplay are expected, birdmen minions exploding into chunks is not.
Holy Weapon presents the story of Seven Maidens who are recruited to challenge the threat posed by a Japanese swordsman of supernatural power and ability. Sword fighting, sorcery, mistaken identities and gender bending abound in this 1993 wire fu film.
